Traveling to Sayulita
Where to fly into
Airport: Sayulita is located about 25 miles north of Puerto Vallarta, so PVR is the airport you will need to fly into. It will be roughly a 30-45 min drive.
Visa: You will receive a tourist visa to enter Mexico. Your flight attendants will give you the forms to fill out on the plane, and you will receive a stamp on it after you go through customs. It’s very important that you keep this little piece of paper for the duration of your trip – you need it to get out of the country.
Expectations
When you get off of the plane in PV, here is what will happen:
1. Pick up your luggage. (There is a place to exchange money here if you need.)
2. Go through security checkpoint and customs.
3. After customs, you will go down a hallway full of people trying to sell you a timeshare and offering you taxi rides. Just keep walking and IGNORE them! They are convincing with tequila shots, so just keep saying “no gracias!”
4. Proceed to your planned transportation.
5. If you have rented a car service, you will find the driver outside with your name on a sheet of paper.
6. Grab your transportation and head to SAYULITA! Stop at the Mega Grocery Store on the way if you need to buy food or drink for your villa.
Transportation
Hail a Taxi from the airport. You can expect to pay around $40 one way if you are hailing a taxi from the Puerto Vallarta airport. Get an estimate from the taxi driver before getting in and hold them to it!
For those adventurers. There is a bus from the PV Airport that leaves every 30 minutes. It costs approximately 35 pesos ($2 USD). It takes around 90 minutes, due to frequent stops, and will drop you off at the town square in Sayulita. To take a bus, cross over the pedestrian bridge at the airport.
Car Rental
Renting your own car is an option. Keep in mind, the village of Sayulita is small, and not the easiest to maneuver through with a large vehicle. The town is easily walkable from one end to the other. Our suggestion is to rent a golf cart once you arrive in Sayulita for transportation within the city (especially if your villa is located on a hill). However, if you plan on exploring outside the town – Punta Mita, San Pancho, or Puerto Vallarta a rental car may work for you.
